Just finished reading this paradigm shifting, wisdom filled book. Prior to reading it had probably been laying around our house for 20 years or so, untouched. I often see it laying around in other people’s houses. I highly recommend you read it, it will rock your world and blow your social mirror wide open. A must read for entrepreneurs. #sharethefruitsharethejourney #The7HabitsOfHighlyEffectivePeople #StephenRCovey #PerennialWisdom #SoulDeep #Entrepreneurship #BusinessOfCreativity #MusicBusiness #ArtsMarketing

Watch Me When I’m Taller
Watch Me When I’m Taller
Rosco Roman and I started a pop music project called Watch Me When I’m Taller – which draws influence from funk, afro, RnB and hip hop with a flare for South African storytelling. We are excited to launch that project online today. We recorded the three tracks Cape Town, I Don’t Feel Like Dancing and Out On A Date (featuring singer/actress Mekaila Mathys) over a period of year and a half in my studio. It was mastered by Tim Lengfeld.
These tracks are up for free download (click ‘more’ next to each track, download), take them, spread the word and share the fruit.
If you would like us to produce your next track, hit reply now.
FRUIT JAM: September House
We love music. We love drama. We love poetry and we certainly love art. These are our fruits. We love to jam these fruits by mixing and matching their different flavours. We love to share this Fruit Jam and watch how it brings people together.
Born of a desire to close the gap between audience and artist and to grow the demand for original art in South Africa, Fruit Jam brings this fruit into a host’s home for a rich experience of flavour. 4 amazing artists will make for a wide spead of fruit to be shared in the September family’s home.
The lineup includes SA’s Got Talent finalist and singer/songwriter Julian Wenn, comedian Lunga Tshuka, actress Regina Malan and painter Lily Brannon.
The event is live on Quicket and the details are as follows:
Venue: September House, 34 Mc Guinness Road, Clamhall (Parow)
Date: Saturday, 26 August
Time: 7:30pm
Cost: R80 Online (R100 at the door) | Fruit Vendor Street Team R60
The That Show: Being an Artist in South Africa
“In that moment, that was the most important thing to me, to be that fantasy for that child in that moment…”
Kelly KiKx has released the final interview in a series of videos for The That Show. In this last one I talk about what doing mascot work has taught me about appreciating the journey of being an artist in South Africa. Being anonymous as a mascot can be really humbling when it’s the first gig you’ve done after returning from performing internationally on renowned stages. Check the interview here.
Apart from vlogging, Kelly KiKx is a professional dancer and film actress who has had roles in the Hollywood films House Party 5, Honey 3 and Bring It On: Worldwide Cheersmack. She also runs a video production company called KiKx Cinematix and contributed her videography to my live videos Real Job and Man in the Mascot Suit. Book her for your video requirements.
Academy of Sound Engineering: Be the Mascot
This past Monday I taught a lecture at the Academy of Sound Engineering (ASE) called ‘Be the Mascot’, where I proposed the idea that being the other person’s mascot is the key to creating sustainability in an economy that desperately needs relational synergy. If people are your most important asset, then you better be singing their praises to all of your friends. Not because you’re brown nosing, but because you freakin’ believe in them!
The Mascot Model proposes that if you do good work, I do good work, we synergise – I’ll be your mascot, you’ll be my mascot. If I’m a mascot to eight people, those eight people will be my mascot and so it goes. In that way we create an economy out of people, and in so doing circumvent the lame old way of doing things in the creative industry. And by the way, it works.
Shout out to Adrian Rogowski, lecturer in intellectual property at ASE who invited me to speak on this topic. He will draw up your contracts, book him.
Hit reply and let’s talk about about how I can show you how to be the mascot. Or better, invite me to do a talk at your office, school, whatever.

FRUIT QUOTE
You that is always feeling what the nation are feeling; then immediately composes songs of hardships and sorrows; of course of love, happiness, for the memories that will stay forever through generations to generations! It will be nice if your people acknowledged your songs; your songs are folk songs – inspired revolutions in and out of your folks’ inner selves! Back and forward in the land! Long live your land! – Johnny Dyani, Poem for Musician’s Musician
